The State Guard & Defense Force Council (StateDefenseForce.com) is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and detail-oriented Article Writer to develop high-quality, feature-length articles covering State Guards, State Defense Forces, and related national defense and homeland security topics.
This role supports our mission of providing accurate, authoritative information to service members, policymakers, military leaders, and the public regarding State Defense Forces across the United States.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Researching and writing feature-length articles on State Guards, State Defense Forces, and their missions, training, activations, and historical context.
- Developing articles using source material provided, including official statements, reports, interviews, newsletters, and public affairs releases.
- Producing content that is fact-based, neutral, and objective, avoiding editorial bias while maintaining clarity and depth.
- Covering topics that intersect with the U.S. Military, National Guard, homeland security, disaster response, civil support operations, and state-level defense policy.
- Meeting agreed-upon deadlines while maintaining consistent quality and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all articles are thoroughly researched, properly sourced, and factually accurate.
- Maintain a neutral, professional tone suitable for policymakers, military leadership, service members, and the general public.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the roles, missions, authorities, and limitations of State Guards, State Defense Forces, the National Guard, and the broader U.S. military structure.
- Work collaboratively with editors and leadership to refine articles when needed.
Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree required (Journalism, History, Political Science, Military Studies, Public Policy, or a related field). Master’s degree a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of State Guards / State Defense Forces, as well as the U.S. Military and National Guard, including their missions, duties, and operational roles.
- Proven ability to write long-form, feature-length articles based on provided source material.
Strong research, writing, and editing skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to clearly explain complex military and policy concepts to a broad audience.
Prior experience writing for military, defense, public affairs, policy, or government-focused publications is a strong plus.

Social Media Director
Location: Remote

The State Guard & Defense Force Council (StateDefenseForce.com) is seeking a reliable, professional, and community-focused Social Media Director to oversee and moderate our official social media platforms. This role is critical to maintaining a respectful, informative, and well-managed online presence for the largest State Defense Force community on the internet.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversee and actively moderate the StateDefenseForce.com Facebook Page and the StateDefenseForce.com Facebook Group, the largest State Defense Force community online.
- Moderate and manage comments and engagement on our Reddit community, TikTok comment sections, Instagram comments, and X (formerly Twitter) replies.
- Enforce community standards and posting rules to ensure discussions remain respectful, professional, and aligned with the mission of StateDefenseForce.com.
- Remove spam, misinformation, harassment, or policy-violating content as needed.
- Respond to basic community questions or escalate issues to senior staff when appropriate.
- Help foster healthy discussion, engagement, and growth across all platforms while protecting the credibility and reputation of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a consistent moderation presence across all assigned platforms.
- Apply community rules fairly and consistently.
- Monitor trends or recurring issues within the community and report concerns to leadership.
- Coordinate with the State Guard & Defense Force Council staff regarding sensitive topics, official messaging, or emerging issues.
Ideal Candidate
- Prior experience moderating Facebook Groups, Reddit communities, or other large online communities.
- Strong understanding of social media platform rules, moderation tools, and comment management.
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and impartial when handling disagreements or controversial discussions.
Familiarity with military, State Defense Force, National Guard, or public service communities is a strong plus, but not required. Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
